Peter was taught how to row at a very young age by his father who is the greatest known promotor of the sport of rowing. He rowed for his high school, Cincinnati Country Day School. His Varsity 4+ won bronze at the USRowing Youth National Championships in 2003 and he placed 4th in the 1x two races later. He then went on to row for Trinity College, Hartford, CT. At Trinity, Peter was a two year captain of the men’s varsity team. Under Legendary Coach Larry Gluckman, Peter stroked the Varsity to four New England Championships, two ECAC Championships, two Head of the Charles victories, two victories at the San Diego Crew Classic, and won the Temple Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta in 2005. Peter was voted Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year during his senior year at Trinity in 2007. After Graduation, Peter Began training for the national team with his older brother Tom. They moved to Newport Beach, CA to train full time. After placing 2nd in the men’s double by just over a second at the Olympic Trials, they missed representing the US at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In the fall of 2008, Peter began coaching at Long Beach Junior crew helping two LBJC boys earn a spot on the Junior National Team. Since that time, Peter has been on the National Team 5 times including the 2012 USA Olympic team (while he was coaching at LBJC). He has had the distinct honor of being on two nationals teams with his older brother Tom (USA M2X 2009 and 2011) and two national teams with his younger brother John (USAM4X 2014 AND 2016). Peter has spent the last 3 years in Craftsbury Vermont training with the Craftsbury Outdoor Center’s Green Racing Project and racing internationally in the USA Men’s 4x. He has now moved back to Southern California and is coaching the Varsity Girls.

Lorenzo Salvio– Novice Women’s Coach
Lorenzo started his rowing career at the age of 15. During his 3 years at NAC, he was a member of both the lightweight and varsity eights. He then moved on to Orange Coast College, where he rowed for 2 years, winning the ACRA National Championship in the Freshman eight in 2015 and placing 6th in 2016 in the Varsity 4. He started his coaching career with Newport Seabase as a Junior High Coach in 2014, moved up to coach novice women in 2015. He has joined us this year as the Head Coach of the novice women’s team.

Hallie Heffern– Assistant Coach
Hallie has been apart of LBJC for the last seven years, first rowing for the club for four years in high school then beginning work as the assistant novice women’s coach her freshman year of college. Since then Hallie has coached many of our camps and coached as needed for all of our teams. She is currently in my second year as a civil engineering student at CSULB.
